The Summer Wildflowers Triangle Shawl Crochet Pattern is a free, easy+ design using superfine yarn and size F5 crochet hook. The light and airy design of the shawl is delicate and fun, perfect for summer. It adds style without adding bulk and weighs almost nothing! This pattern used Lion Brand’s Summer Nights yarn, which is partially how the pattern got it’s name.

The name of the colorway I chose from Lion Brand’s Summer Nights collection is called Wildflowers, which I also used in the naming of the pattern. All of the colors in this line are multi-tonal. This one is pink, purple, and green. Check out all of the available colors here.

I love the way the bright colors of the summer night’s yarn are brought out by the charcoal grey secondary color.

This triangle shawl crochet pattern is worked with superfine yarn, so it does take a while to complete. I found that holding the tiny yarn made my tension hand hurt, so I wrapped another loop around a second finger on my tension hand and found that made it much more comfortable for me.

A skill I recommend for this pattern is to know how to complete a standing crochet stitch. We will be using the single crochet version and the double crochet version. Please review the special stitches section before starting.

I have included a small picture tutorial of a special stitch I used for this triangle shawl crochet pattern. I’m calling it the “split bottom treble crochet 2 together”. The stitch is done by working about 2/3 of a treble crochet stitch twice and then working the tops of the 2 treble stitches into 1. I refer to it as split bottom, because there are stitches between the two legs of the treble crochet 2 together. Please refer to the special stitches section below for a more in depth review.

There is a lot to cover here, so let’s get started!

Then completing the stitch as needed. ex. for the double crochet, (YO and pull through 2 loops) 2x. Check out this tutorial about standing crochet stitches for additional instruction.

Pattern Notes

Gauge is only important for this pattern if you wish to achieve the same dimensions as I have given. You may use a smaller or larger yarn or hook to work the project but know that your finished product will have a different size and appearance then what has been provided.

You will need to block the finished triangle shawl to the specified sizes to achieve the full measurements.

The pattern has 2 sections, which alternate. The solid rows at the start of the pattern are Section A. After each section A, there is a section B which gets longer after each repetition. See the chart below for more information about counts during the repetitions.

Section A is made of 3 rows of double crochet with the secondary color (charcoal), then 2 rows of double crochet with the primary color (wildflowers), and 3 more rows with the secondary color.

Section B is a row of single crochet and then increasing number of rows of the split bottom treble crochet 2 together (TC2TG). This stitch is worked in a very similar way as a double crochet 2 together. Review the Special Stitches for additional help.

I recommend counting while working this triangle shawl crochet pattern. If you do not have the right count, section B will not work properly. I have provided charts below by section to help with the count.

The turning chains at the beginning of each row are included in the stitch count. Chain 2 counts as a double crochet. Chain 4 counts as a treble crochet and a chain 1.

I also recommend using a stitch marker in the center stitches of the pattern, especially during section B as it can be confusing which space is the center space.

Section Charts

When counting section A, every double crochet is counted, the chain space in the middle is not included. These are the numbers provided in the table.

When counting the first row of section B, every single crochet is counted. For the remaining rows of the section, only the TC2TGs are counted. Each row should also have 2 treble crochets at each end of the row, and a chain 1 between the end stitch and the next stitch in on each side.

Use the charts below to ensure your count is correct.

Whoa, that was a lot of pattern!

Thanks for sticking with it to the end! The pattern is a little lengthly, and it will take time to complete, but the end result is lovely and SO WORTH IT!

I tried to make this pattern as easy to follow and inclusive as possible, which definitely added to the length.

The length of the pattern makes it seem complicated, but it isn’t!!

Once you get the hang of it, things should go smoothly and flow naturally. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  1. This is beautiful! I’ve been looking for a pattern for the Summer Nights yarn which I went crazy and bought without knowing what to make with it. Now I have this pattern, thanks 🙂

    • CaitlinJenkins says

Vanessa, I did the same thing with the 3 colors I purchased! Which might be why they ended up in my “gotta make something with this!” pile. I’d love to see photos when you finish the project <3 Enjoy!! ~Caitlin

  2. So pretty, I love that multi colored yarn. Thank you for sharing the pattern at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.

  3. Believe or not, this is the first time that I have heard of this Summer Nights yarn from Lion Brand until I received your email of the shawl . From your Lion Brand link, I checked out the colors and was pleasantly surprised.
I shop Joann’s and have not seen this line of Summer Nights in the larger stores ? Now that you have led me in the direction , I will be hooking a promised shawl following you with my hooks . 🙂

I love your ‘newsy’ letters . Keep them coming. You are a textbook of information that I find right in my mailbox.

    • CaitlinJenkins says

I found the same thing!! I hadn’t seen it in many of the stores I go to, but I had seen this yarn in several shops online. I like to buy my yarn from the manufacturer when I can 🙂 I have a couple more skeins of this yarn in 2 other colors beyond what I used for this shawl. I do look forward to trying to make another fun design with it, but I haven’t yet gotten there… good thing yarn doesn’t go bad!! LOL. Thank you also for your kind words about my newsletters. I really enjoy connecting with my list this way and am glad you find my emails informative. I will be sure to keep them coming to you <3 ~Caitlin

  4. I’ve worked through row 8 of the pattern and have the required 48 DC. However, when I work row 10, I end up with 54 SC stitches. If I put 3 stitches in each end stitch and 2 in the center, the row increases by 6 stitches, for a total of 54 stitches. The pattern states I should have 52 SC stitches. What am I doing incorrectly?

    • CaitlinJenkins says

Cheryl, Thank you for your comment. You are not doing anything incorrectly. My math was off when I was calculating the amounts for the chart at the end of this section. I have amended it. Thank you very much for bringing this mistake to my attention. I hope you enjoy the pattern 🙂 Have a great week! ~Caitlin
