This DIY wood key chain holder wall hanging is great for any scrap wood you have lying around…

This old scrap wooden box we found…

The old wooden box Kurt and I found to make the Biscuit Box Wall Hanging has come in handy on several projects so far and it is far from done as we have several more still in the works… sometimes I just can’t seem to stick to one theme haha.

“Creams Loose” was printed on one end of the biscuit box in semi-faded black ink. We have no idea how this provocative phrase made its way onto the side of a biscuit box, but there it is. After cutting up the box for the biscuit box wall hanging we are using the scrap pieces in as many places for as many projects as possible!

Kurt and I loved the double meaning of the words and decided to turn it into a key chain rack. As we get further into our homeowner journey together we are quickly realizing how many keys are needed to run our home. Tractor keys, car keys (and the spare sets!), house keys, house keys for our parent’s houses, various padlock keys, roof rack keys… the list feels endless

Our Own Little Stash Spot

I’m sure you all can relate to being sick of digging through the junk drawer for the keys to start up the lawn mower. This is such an easy solution for anyone to do, and the DIY aspect means you can make your key rack to be just what you want it to be.

We really made this our own by creating a secret cubby that we could put small things into. We mostly use it as a stash spot for any cash we have in the house (never a bad thing to do in my opinion). But because of the extra wide boards we used around the edges to create this little cubby, we had to design and make our own brackets to hang the key rack from.

Construction of Our Brackets

To create these extra wide brackets, we took a piece of wood that was almost thick enough to fill up the whole space in the back. We used a drill bit that was larger than the head of the screw we wanted to use and drilled a hole into the wood. A smaller drill bit created the groove the stem of the nail would slid and rest in.

Three boards that make up the sides and bottom of our cubby with finish nails going through the front of the sign. Finally we put cup hooks into place to hang keys.  We decided to leave the nails left over from the box that were sticking out each side as extra places to hang keys (you can never have too many of those!). Use a ruler to evenly space the hooks and we hand twisted them into the wood.

After that it was just a matter of hanging it on the wall and filling it with our keys. Make sure to hang it level!

What are you hanging that these brackets would be great for? Please leave a comment and let me know!
