>Why Realistic Flower Crochet Patterns?
Spring is in full bloom here in the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania!! Nothing says spring like flowers, and they are just starting to think about blooming.
Several years ago my mom planted plastic flowers in her garden. At the time I admit I thought she was nuts, but I have since seen the wisdom of her ways. Plastic flowers still look beautiful when you don’t have time to make sure they are watered or getting the right amount of sun. And lets face it, you can’t tell they are plastic from the road!!
I have started taking a similar view for the flowers on display around my house. I have some fake flowers sitting in a vase in my powder room, and they look lovely there – even though they don’t get any sunlight and I never water them.
Since I do have the ability I thought it could be fun to gather up some realistic flower crochet patterns. I can make my own in colors I love and that fit my decor. Or I can make some to give away as gifts!
Hooks for Making A Realistic Flower Crochet Pattern
Below are various options to purchase crochet hooks. A lot of the realistic flower crochet patterns below call for crochet thread and very small hooks. You may know these hooks as “steel”.
Some of the patterns in this round up may call for standard size crochet hooks. I have included both standard and steel size hooks for you.
If you’d like more information on crochet hooks, please see my crochet hook guide.

You’ll Need Yarn For These Flowers
Most of these realistic flower crochet patterns below call for a small size yarn and hook combo. This is due to the nature of crocheting something to look delicate. The smaller the yarn and hook the more detail you can give something while still letting it be little enough to be real looking.
Since these things can be painful to find if you aren’t fully sure what to look for I have worked up a list to help you! I’ve tried to choose the best yarns while considering budget and fiber type. As a result I have a list with several types of fibers and ranging from expensive to more budget friendly options.
I’ll break them down into size for you…
Crochet Thread size 20 & 30 – The smallest
This “yarn” is so thin it can only be called thread. These are the smallest yarns one can choose and only a couple on the list call for them. I found these to be some of the more difficult to find, but I think I did well…
Size 0 Yarn – Also called Size 8 & 10 Thread
Size 1 Yarns – Also called Size 3 & 5 Thread
Curio #3 Thread Comfy Fingering Yarn Lion Brand Lace Lopi Einband Wool Perle Size 1 Cotton Scheepjes Catona Cotton
Worsted and DK Weights – The largest
Only a few of the patterns below call for these larger types of yarn, but I wanted to include some for you – mostly because I had fun putting the list together
About The Patterns
This realistic flower crochet pattern round up is a mixture of free and paid crochet patterns. I focused more on the beauty and realism of the flower to be made than how much the pattern cost. Sometimes you have to pay for quality right? Of course if you want to browse only the free ones, feel free to do that ๐
As for the skill level needed… Many of the patterns are easy to intermediate patterns; but there are a couple of experienced patterns in here too. Flowers are intricate and in order to make a realistic flower crochet pattern you need a certain level of skill to make them look real.
I have organized the round up by skill level, and have noted in the description whether the pattern is free or paid.

These are amazing. I had to zoom in to see that they were really crocheted. And, I worked in a floral shop for 6 years
