Looking forward to summer and icey pops! This free beginner friendly ice pop cozy crochet pattern is a fun and super fast design. Worked with cotton yarn, this machine washable cozie is the perfect thing to eat your summer treats.
I’m dreaming of summer days this week since I’ve spent the week in bed with a bad cough and cold. This fast crochet project is so easy and quick I worked several of these ice pop cozies while I was between sneezes and binge watching Heartland on the couch.
The Yarn
For this easy summer crochet pattern I’m using Cotton Yarn. This worsted weight yarn is a good choice for this kind of thing because it is absorbent and machine washable.Trust me, when all the ice pop juice gets onto the cozy, you’ll be glad it’s washable!
It is fun to make these cozies in all kinds of colors! Tell me your favorite color to use in the comments below!!
I love making things with cotton yarn. It’s a great way to turn your cleaning efforts green too! Since cotton yarn is washable it’s an obvious choice for lots of cleaning patterns. Click Here to make my crochet dish cloths.
Easy Ice Pop Cozy Crochet Pattern
Skill
Beginner. This pattern works in the round with half double crochets. The start of the ring is made with a magic circle, but alternate instructions are provided.
Finished Size
1.5 inches wide (when pressed flat) x 4 inches tall
Materials Needed
- About 15 yds or 8 grams of worsted cotton yarn. I used peaches and cream
- G6/4mm crochet hook
- Ruler
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
- Stitch Marker
Gauge
15 HDC x 3 rows (FHDC used for first row-not counted)
4 inches long x 1 inch wide
Stitches Needed
- Magic Circle
- Slip Stitch (SS)
- Half Double Crochet (HDC)
Pattern Notes
Once you have the 12 HDC established, it is easy to make your cozy any height you would like. If you want to make it 5 inches or taller, just keeping working in the round until you have the height you desire.
I recommend working with a stitch marker. Put the stitch marker in the first stitch of each new row and move it up as you go.
Youโll want to work your starting end into the work as you go up. It is nearly impossible to turn the cozy inside out to weave it in later.
The Pattern
Row 1. Work 6 HDC into a magic circle. (6 HDC)
Alternative: Ch 2. Work 6 HDC into second chain from hook.
Row 2. 2 HDC into each st around. (12 HDC).
Don’t forget to use a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row, moving it up as you go to keep track of where you started!
Row 3 – 14. HDC into each st around. (12 HDC).
Once your cozy is as long as you’d like it, use a SS to join the ring to the first stitch of the row you just finished. Tie it off and weave in the end.
Make as many of them in as many colors as you’d like. Experiment with different color combinations and patterns. Make stripes or use variegated yarn.
what a good idea. sue
