Late for St. Paddy’s Day… But Still an Irish Year-Rounder

Irish-Four-Leaf-Clover-Crochet-Applique-Pattern

So I know I’m a few weeks late for St. Patrick’s Day, but I had so much going on starting up my blog at that time that it took a few weeks to get everything together. I justified the lateness of this post to myself by saying “well, I’m Irish and I love Shamrocks all year round, maybe there are some others out there…” Are you out there?

I hope so because this will not be the last you see of this shamrock pattern.

Being Irish myself I love Shamrocks and the part of my heritage they represent. I love to include them in my decor and even have a tattoo of one on my ankle!!

So I had this fantastic idea to work a shamrock into the center of a granny square… But it took me a while to get to the granny square part of things, so I posted just the four leaf clover crochet pattern first.

A Lesson in Patience

When I first started creating this pattern I had this image in my head of what I wanted it to look like. I pictured a blanket where each granny square featured a Shamrock. The granny square part of things proved to be a little too complicated for the time frame I gave myself to work. So after I figured out the Shamrock itself I felt that the applique I had inadvertently created was versatile and unique enough to be put out there by itself.

The applique works up to be about 3.5 inches tall and wide with four leaves and a stem. The base circle of the shamrock is made up first and the stem and each of the leaves are their own entity crocheted onto the base circle. This shamrock applique is perfect for a hair pin or broach, or as an applique for a flag sign for St. Patrick’s Day (or any other holiday you’d like)… it is also a great accent for everything from baby blankets to your favorite hat.

I am still working on turning this versatile applique into a granny square, but until I can get that working I hope you enjoy this four leaf clover applique and have fun Irish-izing (is that a word?) your favorite belongings!
